CAMAR Interview

Yaad Soul…..I'm thinking Cherine Anderson, oh wait she is Dancehall Soul. K... tryagain, ‘herbal’ tea…lol. K for real, Lauryn Hill with some bongos and a reggae jazz band. Aight, I’m gonna stop the guessing. Let’s let the man who coined this term define it for you. “Yard Soul” is defined as poignant vocals almost in an R&B influenced technique over rich Caribbean Dancehall beats. And that my good people describes CAMAR in a nutshell.

A student of music (he actually studied the field at Excelsior College in Jamaica), CAMAR got his big break when he performed live at the Caribbean Music Expo (CME) in 2001 where he was solicited by the Artist Network in Europe. While there, he worked with various artists including Bono from U2, Annie Lennox , Taylor Dane and even opened for Jagged Edge and 112.

In 2002 he was selected during a Karaoke performance to be on a promotional tour for the annual Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival. Since then Camar has performed in Jamaica and throughout the US.

I first heard about CAMAR when Supa Neil and the crew was interviewing him on the Pure Vibes Show on KPFT Pacifica Radio (of which I did the NewsSplash segment “dive into it” allu memba dat????). Ya I was feeling the vibes eh, it was a great show!

And now he has just cemented his status as a favorite of mine cause I just can’t stop listening to his Remix of “Blame It” originally done by Jamie Foxx and T-Pain. Check it out in the player below. Chunne pon fyahhh!!!!

Of recent, his song Pole Technician his been heated in controversy, even beeing pulled off of Facebook. According to JamaicaPressRelease.com

The removal of one of the videos by Facebook has not stopped females from recording themselves dancing. Some ‘Pole Technicians’ have turned to Youtube to upload their videos to share and compete. This is indeed turning out to be a global battle as females from Florida, New Jersey, New York, London and Kingston, Jamaica are dancing to ‘Pole Technician’.

I LOVE MY ENERGETIC AND FUN PERSONALITY! I LOVE TO ENTERTAIN PEOPLE AND KEEP THEM SMILING.

STACY DASH, SERENA WILLIAMS, KERRY HILSON AND A STUDIO...LOL....ONE FOR EACH DAY ...LOL!


9. Has anyone told you something to make you cry?
YES...I'M VERY EMOTIONAL. EVEN THOUGH I STILL KEEP IT G-CODE (I'M STILL HUMAN) BUT JUST THE THOUGHT OF ANYTHING HAPPENING TO MY MOTHER BRINGS TME TO INSTANT TEARS.


10. What's your worst habit?
FORGETTING TO EAT I THINK?....I SPEND SO MUCH TIME IN THE STUDIO, THAT TENDS TO HAPPEN A LOT.
